Preparations Needed to Go Back to School

As the summer holidays are coming to a close, there is the issue of preparing your children to go back to school.  The first thing to do is calming them down with the freedom of summer school activities and back into a routine.  Getting them to see that doing this slowly is more effective and less of a "bang" if you just simply leave it to the first early morning and try dragging them out of their beds! Adjustment over a week or so is the safer way and less of a fight!  Nothing worse than tired kids on the school run!

There is the issue of school uniform if applicable.  Accordingly to the age of your children is whether or not this should be ordered through the relevant school shops or simply into high street shops or online.  Always making sure that you take advantage of any special offers that will be running.

One of the best things from my memory of being a child when preparing for the return to school is going out and getting all of the stationary that is needed.  Now this is sometimes governed by the school in that it should be a certain brand.  Children will want to purchase the fashionable or "in" themes.  This can be anything from a football club to a Disney film but the theme will be continued throughout everything that is required.  

Some of the things that are essential include pencils, pens, eraser, ruler, glue, colouring pens, pencil case, exercise books, folders, school bag etc.  At the time there will be many offers in shops and online and buying in bulk could be the way forward.   Remember the amount of work that your children undertake within the year, having a reserve could avoid a "midterm" shopping trip.

A way of making sure that nothing is missed would be to make a list of the things that you need, sit down with your child and go through it with them as they are the ones that should know what they need, and then tick each item as you purchase it or confirm that it’s OK to be used from the previous year.   All of these tips make the transaction into school life easy for you and them and restoring normality!

What Preparations are needed for Arts and Crafts?

Arts and crafts are great hobby to do. In the event that you are considering purchasing a few arts and crafts, as a matter of first importance arrange an area to keep them in, for example, a box, cabinet or draw that you will be able to control stock levels and know what and when to purchase new items.  Some of the basic items that you would consider to be in your "kit" would be, colouring pens and pencils, rulers, scissors, glue, moulding plastic and clay, stickers, paper and card, felt, paints and sticky tape etc.  Then you can build on this as you become more creative.

The other thing that you would need to remember when setting the area up would be the use of natural light.  This can be something that can be overlooked but when it comes to light and shades of paints or when using such things as glitter where precision is needed.

Like all things the level of ability starts from kids to the most experienced and in a reflection the items that are needed differ accordingly.  Majority of things can be purchased in high street shops but then are items that are sought through specialised companies through the internet.

There are options of being able to purchase ready-made arts and crafts kits direct from manufacturers.  Now these carry both advantages and disadvantages.  You can always build on a basic kit and then this becomes bespoke for you and your family.

The use of books and the internet could be used for inspirations and basic guidance.  Even the most creative person can have a creative block that seems impossible to overcome so a little inspiration goes a long way.  Some of the more experienced artist people may have a theme or specific line of crafts and decide to sell these.
