Importance of Dental Check-ups Through Pregnancy

When you are pregnant every aspect of your body will change in one way or the other, your dental health is something that needs to be increased.  Not every mother to be is aware that keeping your teeth in perfect condition benefits both you and your unborn child.

The tooth development of your baby will begin between weeks 6-8 so dental care and nutrition intake of the expectant mother is essential. The baby's teeth start to harden from four months.

During pregnancy, changes in estrogen and progesterone levels cause an increase level of dental health problems such as increased sensitivity and puffiness of the gums, increase in cavities, increase in plaque formation, nausea, vomiting, and food cravings.

During the first trimester you should have a check-up, this gives you time during the second trimester to carry out any procedures that may need to be done.

Brushing your teeth at least twice a day for a minimum of 2 minutes is advisable.  You should use a suitable toothbrush with a pea sized amount of toothpaste that contains fluoride.  The use of an electric toothbrush makes the process effortless.

Flossing should be something in your daily routine, this stops the build-up of bacteria sitting in between your teeth and causing tooth decay.

Think about the food that you eat; you need to consume a high amount of dairy foods to provide your baby with the required calcium. If you find that you are snacking regularly then rinsing your mouth with water or a gentle brush could help.  You do not need the sugar to be sitting in your mouth and causing more cavities.

Our mouths are something that at times we abuse but when you are an expectant mother, you cannot allow this to happen, you should always remember that throughout your pregnancy you are doing everything for two and this includes your dental health as well!

How to Create Positive Attitude Towards Homework for Your Children

Teachers and parents alike understand the importance and benefits of homework within the child's learning and grades. Homework is a daily part of the learning process and should be assisted in the house. The best way that you can assist is by creating a specific space for your child to study. Alongside the dedicated area, there are some other factors that need to be taken into consideration. The more of these that you can provide for your child, the better success rate for studying time. Making the study space permanent and keeping to a regular homework routine. This helps to create concentration for the studying. Personalising the area. This will allow your child to become enthusiastic about being in the study area and also develop the motivation needed for the homework itself. Remove any distractions. The area should be in a quiet and well lit part of the house, you should also take into consideration the distance from the television, radio or PC. Even though the PC could be required to assist in the homework and studying, sometimes there needs to be monitoring so as not to avoid any distractions. Mobile phones should be switched off or put away during this time.

Providing the correct materials. It is important that your child has everything that they need for the activities that they have been assigned to do. Stocking up on materials such as pens, pencils, paper, calculator, dictionary and colouring pens. For a more creative twist the purchase of gel pens is recommended, these will allow your child to express their artistic skills or simply aid with highlighting text for revision. The most important thing is to create a routine for homework. There should be a "set time" within the day and this will help your child to be positive and thus the homework becoming a positive habit. Even if no homework has been set, studying and reviewing current work will always benefit your child.
